I’m Darin O’Meara, a game designer with professional experience at EA Sports and Jam City.
As a game designer, I strive to produce content that engages and challenges players but doesn’t confuse and/or frustrate them by thinking like a player. It’s this simple philosophy that I’ve used to create several successful projects during my time as a designer. I work hard to create meaningful and fun experiences alongside my peers and colleagues. I implore you to explore my portfolio and resume to learn more about the projects I’ve been a part of throughout my schooling and co-op alongside my work experiences and skills.
That being said, it’s not just my game design experience that I use to make games. Throughout my time as a designer, I’ve amassed skills in several disciplines that have benefitted me in my projects. I have computer science experience through my minor at NEU, and I also have top-tier game competition experience in the Pokémon TCG (individually, semi-pro), Weiss Schwarz, CS:GO and Rocket League (as a part of Northeastern University Esports), games research experience through my co-op and prior research projects, and writing experience through my time as a writer for professional game and esports publications.
I believe it’s this interdisciplinary experience alongside my extensive design and development experience that makes me a well-rounded designer, one that can observe and create games from several different angles to produce well-polished products.
Outside of game design, I have done work within esports and journalism. I also play drums as a part of a band and enjoy playing volleyball. My biggest hobbies are competitive card games, namely the Pokémon TCG and Weiss Schwarz. In Pokemon, I was among North America’s Top 16 players to earn a travel stipend to go to the Oceania International Championships in Melbourne in 2019, and have competed in four Pokemon World Championships in my lifetime. In Weiss Schwarz, I finished 2nd in the US national tournament in 2024 after making a very hasty return, earning my invitation to compete in the World Championships back in January 2025.
I am extremely passionate about what I do. Games have been a part of my life since as long as I can remember, and the field is where I want to be for the rest of my life. I do so much to hone my skills within the field by playing games, making them, writing, and designing. I pride myself in my game ideas and mechanics, my writing for analog and digital games alike, and my research into the workings of games. I promise you that I am a valuable asset to any games team.
